What we perform in our office is called IV moderate conscious sedation, where we are able to put our patients to a sedation level that is not too deep or general anesthesia, since these are more of a hospital-based type of settings.

Our patients, of course, we get to screen them ahead of time to make sure they're actually qualified for the sedation. Once you're able to sedate them, the beautiful thing about it is that it is a controlled quality of sedation, they are breathing on their own, so there's no need for the intubation process of it.

Our patients are monitored, of course, through 3 lead ECG, pulse oximeter, end-tidal CO₂. We do provide them all the right armamentarium to monitor their sedation process during the procedure it takes.

Again, the goal for the sedation is really to manage their anxiety levels, which most patients don't wish to have the treatment necessarily while they're awake, or they're fully aware of it. It gives them that extra level of comfort, and also from a surgeon's point of view, where we get to perform these procedures, it gives us another extra level of calmness, I would say in a way. That really helps us really focus on our patients during that procedure, during that time.

What makes us so unique is that we are able to provide sedation for our patients, which most [inaudible 00:01:24], either they're not licensed to provide sedation. However, we are licensed to provide the sedation for our patients, and that just gives us an extra level of comfort that we can provide for our patients during these procedures.
